Kate Stephenson

Task Master, Pasta Preparer, Treat Enthusiast

Favorite Thing to Cook: Coq au Vin. Chicken and wine are the way to my heart! There is nothing more cozy or satisfying. Serve with crispy bread or buttered potatoes, soft green herbs and glass of lightly chilled Red Burgundy and I'm a happy lady.

Favorite Kate Uncorked Meal: The Chicken Piccata. I love a chicken cutlet and the tomato artichoke sauce that we use keeps the chicken moist and flavorful!

Favorite Richmond Spot: Dinamo is my favorite spot for simple, straightforward, amazing Italian food. I've never had a bad experience there and love the atmosphere. Grab a spot at the bar to get in the action! When I need some self care, I head to Boketto Wellness - a holistic apothecary that also offers massage, facial and acupuncture services. The space is so calming and inviting, and the staff is so knowledgeable. I never leave empty handed!

When I'm not in the kitchen, you can find me: Playing with my Pom, Gus, getting my butt kicked at PlankRVA, or in the mountains whenever I can get there - my happy place!

Favorite Food Memory: Thanksgiving at the Ballymaloe House. I was in culinary school at the Ballymaloe Cookery School over Thanksgiving. Two of my best friends flew over to Ireland and we had Thanksgiving dinner at the Ballymaloe House - the family run country house situated on a 300 acre farm down the road from the cookery school. Picture Downton Abbey meets Chez Panisse in the Irish countryside and you have Ballymaloe! Everything is either grown on the farmland or locally sourced. The meal was an Irish take on an American Thanksgiving complete with a cheese and dessert cart to follow - always! The wine and Guiness were flowing into the wee hours of the morning and it couldn't have been more magical!

SAUCE BOSS, FERMENTation FANTATIC

Favorite Thing to Cook: Just a simple roasted chicken, slathered in butter, and stuffed to the brim with herbs. Pair that with a zippily-dressed green salad, roasted potatoes and a chilly glass of Chablis —I’m in heaven.

Favorite Kate Uncorked Meal: I love the Carnitas Bowl. I’m a sucker for anything braised and that green molé sauce is my baby. Also give me some Maple Quinoa Brittle always and forever.

Favorite Richmond Spot: Adarra is absolutely my favorite spot for a night out. They always deliver a wonderful experience! Or give me a day at the VMFA ending with a sunset picnic on the grounds.

When I'm not in the kitchen, you can find me: Spinning my wheels at BOHO studios followed by a bottle of wine at the river — it’s all about balance!

Favorite Food Memory: A summertime lunch in the Italian countryside. Sun-kissed cherry tomatoes on the vine, bouquets of bright green basil, crusty bread and balls of literally-just-made Mozzarella Di Bufala, so fresh it was still warm. Not only was this meal incredible, it also showed me the beauty of simplicity in food and the power of quality ingredients. It also converted me into a tomato lover!

Nicole Arney

behind le scenes lady

Favorite Thing to Cook: I love making food many. Anything that requires a lot of veggie chopping, herb picking and a trip to the Farmers Market.

Favorite Kate Uncorked Meal: It’s so hard to pick just one, but the Vegan Teriyaki Power Bowl, Green Gazpacho and Mushroom Cauliflower Spinach Pasta are definitely high ranking.

Favorite Richmond Spot: While I haven't lived in Richmond long, I've quickly fallen in love with this city. My ideal Richmond day would include a long walk in one of the many parks, a stroll through the Farmers Market with local coffee in hand and a sunset picnic overlooking the city.

When I'm not in the kitchen, you can find me: Teaching yoga, at Burn Boot Camp, spending time with my kid, baking, on a long walk, snuggling my Belgian Malinois or sharing coffee with a friend!

My Favorite Food Memory: I have many fond memories around stuffed grape leaves. I first had them in a small refugee camp in the Middle East and craved them upon returning. I became close friends with an Iraqi family living in the States and they taught me how they make dolmas. Another dear friend, who spent many years in Romania, taught me how they make yebra. It is one of my favorite meals to introduce to family and friends who have never had it before - it always cultivates rich conversation about culture, life experiences, and what we cherish as meaningful. I always feel invited to slow down when I make and enjoy these - deep gratitude wells in me for the people who have so generously and lovingly shared this meal with me.

Salmon sorcerer, dank food fanatic

Favorite Thing to Cook: Anything with salmon involved, especially a honey orange glaze. The orange zest brings out the best flavor, I could eat it everyday. Making it with an asian infused twist makes it an even better situation.

Favorite Kate Uncorked Meal: Teriyaki Salmon, makes total sense right? Salmon, sesame seeds, rice and veggies are the key to my happiness.

Favorite Richmond Spot: Grabbing dinner and drinks at The Roosevelt or Tazza Kitchen and walking through Maymont!

When I'm not in the kitchen, you can find me: On a walk around Churchill or out to dinner with friends!

My Favorite Food Memory: Yvonne’s Restaurant in Boston, it's a speakeasy - one of the most delicious meals I have ever had and the aesthetic was everything. Also, eating all the seafood and picking crabs at my river house in the summer with my family.

Favorite Kate Uncorked Meal: I love the Teriyaki Salmon Bowl - pickled veggies, sriracha, cilantro and coconut are all flavors I love especially together! I’m also obsessed with the chia pudding - which is so creamy and decadent it’s unlike any other chia pudding I’ve tried.

Favorite Richmond Spot: I love Stella’s Restaurant, Boutique and particularly their Grocery on Lafayette Street. I love perusing their curated selection of items and usually can’t resist taking home some baklava. They also have a location in Charleston which is my second home!

When I'm not in the kitchen, you can find me: Ideally you’d find me in the Outer Banks with my two goldens, reading my favorite travel magazine YOLO Journal, and spending time with good friends.

My Favorite Food Memory: In high school I had the great privilege of traveling abroad and doing a homestay with a family in Italy. They had apricot trees in their backyard and we would eat them fresh and as well as make jam and I remember being so charmed by this experience and my first taste of farm-to-table cuisine so to speak.

Alex Enggist

Favorite Thing to Cook: My favorite thing to cook is fish, any kind of fish really, but I am super partial to Crispy Skin Rockfish in the spring when they start coming into season!

Favorite Kate Uncorked Meal: I’d have to say the Salmon Niçoise. The mustard glaze on the salmon alongside the caper and olive mix is delicious.

Favorite Richmond Spot: My favorite Richmond spot right now would have to be Alewife, or Dinamo. I don't know that I could ever choose between the two!

When I'm not in the kitchen, you can find me: When I'm not in the kitchen you can find me at home with Susana and Smudge reading a good book, or on the golf course with Susana hitting balls into the woods!

My Favorite Food Memory: My favorite food memories all pretty much are anytime I got the chance to cook with my father. I don't know if any one really stands out, but learning over his shoulder directly led to the cook I am today. Watching him flip giant Pomme Rosti was always pretty high drama, don't know if anything will ever be quite that exciting!

Margaret Thompson

Favorite Thing to Cook: My favorite thing to cook is Pho Ga!

Favorite Kate Uncorked Meal: All of them!

Favorite Richmond Spot: The Lawn at the VMFA.

My Favorite Food Memory: Croissants and Poached Eggs as a child in Scotland.

Fun Fact: I am a Certified Postpartum Doula.

Plays Well With Food

Favorite Thing to Cook: Using food itself as a vessel brings me a lot of joy.  Picture an acorn squash filled with butternut and carrot soup or zucchini and squash boats filled with quinoa, herbs and veggies. Yum.

Favorite Kate Uncorked Meal: Pea and Asparagus Soup. I just love green food and how good it makes me feel after eating it!

Favorite Richmond Spot: I love taking walks or running along the river, especially at sunrise and sunset. The CSX train bridge is my absolute favorite.

My Favorite Food Memory: I truly believe food is a way to show love and I smile whenever I think about the breakfasts my grandfather (we called him Gooddad) made me. He typically made scrambled eggs and they were delicious! He used a couple cast iron pans that I now have, so I feel like he's with me whenever I cook with them. If only having the same pans meant I could make eggs like he did!

Fun Fact: I've lived on 3 continents and have traveled to 16 countries.

Candace Atkins

Favorite Thing to Cook: A long slow cooked soup on a cold winter day.

Favorite Kate Uncorked Meal: I loved Kate’s curry, it’s delicious.

When I'm not in the kitchen, you can find me: At the Byrd theater watching a Hitchcock classic.

Favorite Richmond Spot: The dim sum on Sunday at the Full Kee Restaurant.

My Favorite Food Memory: Anything my mother ever made me.

Aly Hart

Favorite Thing to Cook: Bread. I love the slow, patient process, and the end result is incredibly satisfying.

Favorite Kate Uncorked Meal: The Veggie Teriyaki Bowl is great, I'm a sucker for a good sauce. The Maple Quinoa Brittle and Chia Puddings are also killer.

When I'm not in the kitchen, you can find me: At Pizza Bones with my family, selling baked goods at a farmers market, or on a run around Church Hill.

Favorite Richmond Spot: Richmond is still fairly new to me, but Grisette has quickly become a go to.

My Favorite Food Memory: Cooking with my daughter always brings me joy. She's 2, so it requires an immense amount of patience but seeing her little hands rolling enchiladas or attempting to whisk anything is so sweet it just about breaks my heart.
